Walk/Run for Water this Weekend!

Please join the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project (HGHRP) for the Walk/Run for Water at 10 a.m. this Saturday, Oct. 23. The 5K walk/run will start at the PAC Center - rain or shine. Proceeds from the event will support Water for Sudan, Inc. (https://www.waterforsudan.org) and the drilling of safe-water wells in southern Sudan.

Registration is $15 per person; sponsorships and team participation are encouraged. Participants can pre-register or register at the event. Additional sponsorships are encouraged. A registration form and sponsor sheet are attached below. The first 50 participants who raise $100 will receive a free T-shirt.

All proceeds will be donated directly to Water for Sudan, a nonprofit organization led by MCC alumnus Salva Dut. The organization’s mission is to drill wells in southern Sudanese villages allowing access to clean water free from parasite infestation. Dut and his team have built 76 wells to date. Each well costs $12,000 to drill.

MCC students realize the power of clean water. By creating safe-water wells in southern Sudan, Sudanese villagers no longer trek miles to obtain contaminated water. This allows villages to flourish and develop educational, economical and health benefits for its citizens. Since 2005, student leaders have raised more than $36,204 for Water for Sudan. A well was dedicated to Monroe Community College in 2010. The HGHRP’s involvement with Water for Sudan illustrates MCC's commitment to education and empowering people to improve their lives.
