Dr. Mary Ann DeMario (IR) and MCC Alumna Tatyana Davis Speak at SUNY / Rockefeller Institute Symposium

The Rockefeller Institute of Government is the public policy research arm of SUNY. On November 19, at the personal invitation of both organizations, MCC alumna Tatyana Davis and Dr. Mary Ann M. DeMario spoke at a symposium titled "On-Campus Child Care in the Time of COVID-19."

In a session titled "A Student-Parent Success Story," Tatyana spoke about her years in the Health Information Technology program at MCC, and utilizing supports such as the Guon Child Care Center and DWIGHT.

Mary Ann's session was titled "Ensuring Education for All: The critical role of campus child care and other support structures in promoting a successful and diverse student body." She presented her research on MCC Student-Parents, including the academic outcomes of Student-Parents with young kids who utilized the Guon Child Care Center as compared to those who didn't. (See attached.)

Other organizations who presented at the symposium included: SUNY Administration, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, the New York Early Childhood Professional Development Institute, the City University of New York (CUNY), and campus-based child care centers from across the state.

It should be noted that approximately 8,000 child care providers across New York State, including those attached to colleges and universities, have closed their doors since March.
