"Raise Your Voice" Series at MCC Lets Students be Heard

Students at Monroe Community College will participate in the national Raise Your Voice campaign, a debate and information-sharing series designed to give college students across the country the opportunity to have a say in the public issues affecting their campuses and communities.

Beginning the week of Feb. 10, MCC will join over 600 colleges and universities across the country taking part in Raise Your Voice. Campus Compact, a national organization that promotes service learning, and the Pew Charitable Trust launched the initiative. MCC is a member of Campus Compact.

The following events will be held at the Brighton Campus, 1000 East Henrietta Road:
· Massage Health Fair (Monday, Feb. 10, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Bldg 1, 2nd floor) - The MCC Massage Therapy Club will tackle wellness issues that affect student health by introducing them to the healing power of massage. Rochester-area practitioners will be on hand to share their expertise on various modalities, including Ayurveda, essential oils/raindrop massage therapy, aromatherapy and nutrition.
· Stop the Violence Debate (Monday, Feb. 10, noon - 1 p.m., Bldg. 1, 1st floor Brick Lounge) - The Global Union International Students' Association/Model United Nations Club holds a discussion about violence and street crime in our communities. The event is being held in memory of Tyshawn Cauldwell, a young victim of violent crime in Rochester.

Students will also get a chance to participate in "judgment shootings," which are simulations designed to test one's judgment in stressful situations. Students will also have a chance to spend a shift at the 911 Emergency Dispatch Center.
