DCC Student Services Staff Present at Community College Institute


Corinne Rapp, Counselor, and Shelitha Williams, Director of Student Engagement, presented, “Peer Student Leader Program” at the 7th annual College Student Personnel Association of New York State Community College Institute held on Friday, June 19, at Tompkins Cortland Community College.  The theme this year was “Community College of the Overwhelmed; Best Practices for Assisting Students in Need”.   The Institute is designed to bring together professionals working with community college students and provide them the opportunity to connect over similar issues and topics.

Corinne and Shelitha discussed how the Damon City Campus Peer Leader program assists students with Making and Cultivating Connections. They explored the theoretical foundation for the Peer Leader program and also provided practical advice for program development. The session focused on student success and retention with an emphasis on strategies for developing a program in an urban community college environment.
