Agriculture and Life Sciences Institute assists in securing grant funding to help protect agriculture in Monroe County

On behalf of the Monroe County Agriculture and Farmland Protection Board, MCC’s Agriculture and Life Sciences Institute (namely Bob King, Senior Specialist) provided participatory assistance and support to the Genesee Land Trust (GLT) and three farm operations which resulted in the approval of state assistance funding for the purchase of development rights (PDR)  on each farm. The New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets (NYSDAM) awarded $1.7 million to these farm operations in the interest of permanently protecting agriculture as  a land use in Monroe County. The farms will be receiving the grant awards over the next 2 years and include:  Zarpentine Farms in Parma, the Updaw’s property (Chase Farms Partnership) in Rush, and Weber Farms in Webster.  The GLT is responsible for the administration and implementation of these grant awards.
