The Honors Institute to explore Geometry in the Service of Religion

The Honors Institute welcomes Mark McKinzie, PhD, Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at St. John Fisher College, on Wednesday, November 6th, at noon in room 5-100. McKinzie will speak on Geometry in the Service of Religion. Religion and mathematics, though seemingly dissimilar, each seek ultimate truth - one through faith, the other through logic. Professor McKinzie’s speech focuses on the altar design problems from ancient Greece and India which illustrate not only the “Pythagorean” Theorem but also the ability to create Pythagorean integer triples. Join esteemed Professor Mark McKenzie, math historian, as he reveals surprising connections between religion and mathematics found in different world cultures.

The event is free and open to the MCC community.
