The Honors Lecture Series welcomes Richard Ryan, Ph. D., Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, 12-12:50 in 3-209 (Empire Room) speaking on Intrinsic and Extrinsic Motivation. Ryan’s work has inspired many studies in widely varying cultures finding that offering people external rewards affects persistence, quality of engagement, and well-being while intrinsic motivation promotes persistence, quality of engagement, and well-being. Ryan will discuss self-determination theory as the basis of this work and its applications in school, athletics, business, and family life. Ryan is Professor of Psychology at the University of Rochester and Professor at the Institute for Positive Psychology and Education in Sydney Australia.
