MCC-Toyota Event Set for April 6 at ATC

MCC community members are invited to attend an April 6 announcement on the Technician Training & Education Network (T-TEN) program, a partnership among MCC, Toyota USA, and local Toyota/Lexus dealerships.

Joseph Myers, T-TEN field manager, will announce the revamping and certification of the high-tech Toyota automotive technician education and on-the-job training program at MCC’s Applied Technologies Center. The event will be held 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in ATC’s Toyota Lab (Room 110). Other regional Toyota T-TEN leaders as well as regional Toyota/Lexus dealers are scheduled to attend.

Toyota has been working with MCC and 34 other community colleges and vocational schools nationwide to redesign their T-TEN programs <https://www.monroecc.edu/go/automotive>  to align with current Toyota and industry occupational standards. The program provides education and hands-on training as well as employment opportunities for automotive students. Upon program completion, graduates immediately enter the workforce as certified technicians within Toyota/Lexus dealerships.

The announcement on April 6 is timed with the completion of Toyota’s intensive review of the MCC T-TEN program to ensure it meets Toyota’s more rigorous standards.

As one of the original 10 T-TEN colleges, MCC has teamed up with Toyota since 1987 to offer the program and is among only three community colleges in New York state participating in T-TEN.

The Finger Lakes region projects 233 annual job openings in automotive technologies, according to MCC’s January 2015 report “Measuring Middle-Skills Occupational Gaps Within the Finger Lakes Region.” <https://www.workforceforward.com/SkillsGap
