Reflections from Professor Louis Silvers, Carmen Powers Legacy Lecture Honoree
Professor Louis Silvers, faculty member and chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures, will retire in June after 25 years of service. Among his many accomplishments and contributions are: expanding the number of languages taught at the college, developing several Study Abroad programs, and regular lobbying for public education funding at the State Legislative Office in Albany.
Here, Professor Silvers shares his journey from Uruguay, his country of birth, to Winston-Salem, NC, where he worked as a linguist for AT&T, to MCC in 1995, when he was the first new hire in his department in 25 years. Please take a moment to read his reflection and celebrate his tireless advocacy for our students, our college, and our community.
