The Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project invites the college community to hear the story of one of MCC’s most inspiring alumni, Salva Dut ’00 and meet author Linda Sue Park at:

Park’s New York Times bestseller, "A Long Walk to Water," published in 2010 by Clarion Books, is a based on Salva’s true story as one of 3,800 Sudanese “Lost Boys” airlifted to the United States beginning in the mid-1990s. The book is available in seven languages and is part of the New York State Education Department’s Common Core English Language Arts curriculum. Park won the 2002 Newbery Medal for her book "A Single Shard," considered the year’s most distinguished contribution to American literature for children.

Local middle school students will be on campus at 10 a.m. and noon for the presentation. Students and teachers from 27 states, England and Hungary will participate in the discussion via livestream.
