Electrical and Natural Gas Safety Training


The Homeland Security Management Institute (HSMI) in conjunction with the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management (MCOEM) and Rochester Gas & Electric is pleased to offer “Electrical and Natural Gas Safety Training” on Thursday, May 26th from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the RG&E Operations Center – 1300 Scottsville Road.

Scheduled Rochester Gas & Electric activities include:

1. "Live Line" electricity demonstrations review common misconceptions and myths concerning power lines and dealing with electricity in a safe manner. Common myths include: “Vehicle tires are electrical insulators”, “Power lines are insulated”, “Only high voltage is dangerous”, “When a wire falls to the ground it automatically shuts off”, “When a live wire falls it makes sparks”, “Wood is an insulator”, “Household rubber gloves or rubber soled shoes insulate”, and many others. In addition to the live demonstrations there will be ample opportunity to address questions from the audience.

2.  “Natural Gas Emergency Response” training and demonstrations identify hazardous situations involving natural gas, propane and carbon monoxide. Learn from the experts regarding the proper actions to follow to remain safe.

Rochester Gas & Electric continually updates their presentations regarding important utilities safety information. Learn important information to help protect yourself and your family.
