New A.S. Programs: Fire Protection Technology and Wellness Coaching and Health Management


The Curriculum Office is pleased to announce that the College has received notification of the registration of two (2) new programs by the New York State Education Department for Fall 2017:

Fire Protection Technology A.S. Degree (HEGIS Code 5507)
Fire Protection Technology is designed to explore the application of technology to the field of fire protection. The curriculum prepares students to meet the challenges of contemporary problems in the fire protection disciplines. Classes meet in the evening. Employment and advancement opportunities for graduates are found in both municipal and industrial fire protection field, marketing and support of fire suppression and detection systems, and safety departments of mid to large size companies. The A.S. degree program allows students the flexibility to pursue specific areas of interest related to the field of fire protection, obtain a broader general education, and prepare for transfer to a baccalaureate program.

Wellness Coaching and Health Management A. S. Degree (HEGIS Code 5299.30)
This program is designed for individuals who want to enter the new and emerging field of Wellness Coaching and Health Management. Wellness coaches facilitate the development of healthy goals including; lifestyle enhancement, healthy nutrition, improved physical activity and stress reduction. However, the Wellness Coach takes traditional fitness and wellness promotion one step further and actively assists clients in social advocacy, complementary therapies, meaning, purpose and life vision. Students will acquire a strong foundation in science as it relates to human movement and fitness, behavior change, and wellness. Additionally, students will develop skills in assessment and program planning, implementation and monitoring. Students will have the opportunity to earn Health and Wellness Coaching Certification at the local level. Mastery of skills and completion of this program will also help prepare students to become certified by the International Consortium for Health & Wellness Coaching.
