Dr. Taylor to Keynote 'Think About Teaching' Conference

The Dean of Howard University’s Graduate School will discuss Closing the Achievement Gap during the 5th Annual Think About Teaching Conference.

Faculty and staff are welcome to attend the keynote address by Dr. Orlando Taylor - 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in Monroe A/B (Flynn Campus Center, Warshof Conference Center) on MCC’s Brighton Campus.

Dr. Taylor, who also is a professor in Howard’s School of Communications, is a national leader in graduate education and has pioneered work in the fields of communication disorders, sociolinguistics, educational linguistics and intercultural communication. Much of his work focuses on the rich cultural and linguistic diversity in America.

Think About Teaching brings together more than 400 Rochester-area high school students with diverse backgrounds to learn about careers and opportunities in education. On March 16, teachers, administrators and professionals in higher education will give presentations on why students should consider becoming an educator. The conference is designed to lead more minority students into the education profession. Studies have shown that nearly one-third of the students in the area come from minority families, yet only 5 percent of their teachers do.
