WAC Student Workshop

It’s that time of year again. We are fast approaching the Fall Semester mid-term and, for some of you, this is your next to last semester at MCC.  By May 2008, you will have earned your degree and be on your way to other pursuits, perhaps continuing your college education at a four-year school. If so, there are those admission essays to write and they’ll be due sooner than you think. You might find yourself asking questions like: “How am I ever going to write this essay?”; “What must I include, and what can I leave out?”; “Does anyone ever read these things?”

The WAC committee is pleased to announce a partial solution to your dilemma. On Wednesday, October 24, 2007, we will sponsor a return to campus of Mark Embledge, Senior Admissions Specialist at the University of Rochester who will share with you the dos and don’ts of admissions essays. Along the way you will be exposed to the value of WR courses when it comes to college admissions and acceptance.

Members of the Writing Across the Curriculum committee will be on hand to answer any questions concerning the WAC Program and the Writing-Intensive Option. An informational packet will be available which addresses the benefits of taking writing-intensive courses and provides a list of commonly taught writing-intensive courses.

Join us for a top-notch presentation from 12-12:50, in Room 5-200. If this is your first semester at MCC, you have even more reasons to attend. You still have the opportunity to pursue the Writing-Intensive Option during your remaining semesters. Distinguish yourself at graduation time and gain an advantage on others who might be competing for the same admissions slot. Come and bring along a friend. You won’t regret it!

For the WAC Committee,
