Death of Rebecca L. Thornhill

I am saddened to inform the college community that a car accident has taken the life of MCC Senior Drafting Technician Rebecca L. Thornhill.

At approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday, Rebecca was killed in an automobile accident on Route 390. While the accident is still under investigation, it appears the car she was driving was struck by another vehicle that crossed over the median from the oncoming lane.

Although she worked at MCC for only a little over a year, Rebecca was well known, widely respected and very well liked by everyone she came in contact with. Her loss is quite upsetting to everyone, particularly her coworkers in the Facilities Department.

Rebecca was one of the college's liaisons with the construction companies working on the student housing and campus center projects. She was known for working until the job was done and was often overheard saying how much she loved MCC and the people who work here. Prior to joining the college, she was a CAD technician at LaBella Associates and had worked in the drafting field for over 10 years.

What you may not know about Rebecca is that she was also a proud graduate of MCC. She was an alumna of the Class of 1993, graduating with an A.A.S. in Civil Technology: Highway and Structures. Prior to attending MCC, she went to Lansing Community College in Michigan where she was inducted into Phi Theta Kappa.

Rebecca, who lived on Lake Road in Avon, is survived by her life partner, Christopher L. Heron, and her son, Eric C. Bukley. She was 53 years old.

Please keep Rebecca and her family in your thoughts. As soon as we receive information on funeral arrangements or the wishes of her family, we will pass them on to the college community.

Thank you.
