Human Services club partners with Compeer Rochester’s Mentoring Program

The Human Services club has partnered with Compeer Rochester’s Mentoring Program to put smiles on the faces of children that have a mental health diagnosis.  Compeer’s Mentoring program matches volunteers in supportive one-to-one relationships with a young person who is experiencing an emotional or behavioral disorder. Each year, these youth and their families come together for a holiday celebration.  The Human Service Club at DCC has traditionally helped out at this celebration, and this year, they are asking for our support!

Our Humans Service students would like each child from age 2 to 15 to be able to leave this year’s celebration with a little gift and are collecting new or gently used games, toys, books, and gift cards. A collection box is located in the Academic Services suite 1-309 for employees at the Brighton Campus until Monday, November 18th.

Compeer was founded in Rochester, New York in 1973 and now has expanded throughout the United States, Canada and even to Australia.  It started as a grass roots agency in our community to provide friendship to individuals with mental illness.  In addition to the Compeer Youth Program, the program services adults with mental illness and our veterans who are returning from active duty with post traumatic and depressive disorders.
