MCC Promotes Early Literacy by Hosting the 16th Annual Children's Book Festival. 1,000's Visit Brighton Campus Last Saturday.

As many in higher education begin to recognize the strong connection between early literacy and later success in college, MCC is taking an innovative approach to promote those critical reading skills by hosting the 16th annual Rochester Children’s Book Festival.  It is the 5th year that MCC, partnering with 292-BABY and a multitude of nearly 40 community agencies, has hosted the event. Thousands of parents, grandparents, caregivers and especially children attended the event held Saturday, November 10 in the Flynn Campus Center. Dozens of children’s authors were on hand to sign books, talk with children and make presentations about writing for children. Crafts and activities that promote early literacy were available for hundreds of children (and adults) to enjoy during this all-day event.

This celebration of books, authors and related activities appears to have drawn the largest crowd ever, according to event organizers, who were estimating that between 4,000 and 5,000 adults and children attended.

Once again, MCC is at the forefront in responding to our community’s unique educational needs!
