Teaching Anatomy Online Audioconference

MCC will host the Instructional Technology Council's audioconference Teaching Anatomy Online scheduled for Tuesday, January 20, 2004 from 4:00-5:00 p.m. in the Third Floor Conference Room. If you would like to register to attend, please contact Carol Wilkinson at Ext. 3019 or HYPERLINK "mailto:cwilkinson@monroecc.edu"cwilkinson@monroecc.edu.

The presenter is Dr. Thierry Bacro, Associate Professor, Associate Professor, Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy, Medical University of South Carolina.

Brief Synopsis: In the past five years, computer-assisted instruction has revolutionized the traditional approach to gross anatomy teaching. In cases where cadaver dissection laboratories are not a requirement, such as in many health professional curricula and undergraduates programs, the use of educational technology can allow the HYPERLINK "https://ts.mivu.org/default.asp?show=article&id=977"successful online delivery (https://ts.mivu.org/default.asp?show=article&id=977) of a traditional gross anatomy course using a mix of course management system, online tools and commercially as well as locally created digital resources (still pictures and streaming audio-video clips).

This presentation will focus on the strategies to use to successfully migrate a traditional anatomy course to an online environment and will address the challenges that arise in this process. Several samples of audio-video clips created to support online anatomy courses will also be shared with the audience. Finally, Dr. Thierry Bacro will discuss how the recent advent of IP conferencing using Internet2 can complement online anatomy courses.
