MCC's First Rwandan Genocide Commemoration

Student leaders of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project at MCC, in partnership with the Black Student Association, will host their first-ever commemoration to honor the victims and survivors of the Rwandan Genocide at noon and 7 p.m. Monday, April 2 in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Entitled “Rwanda: Remembrance & Reconciliation,” the noon event will feature poetry, dance and a keynote presentation by Reverend Elisee Rutagambwa, SJ, teaching fellow of the Theology Department and Jesuit Community member at Boston College. Rutagambwa will recall the tragic history of his homeland and explore the response of the Roman Catholic Church and the international community to genocide.

The evening event will feature remarks by Bishop Matthew Clark from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Rochester.

The Rwandan Genocide occurred in 1994. Over 800,000 lives were lost in 100 days.
