Quotes That Inspire

As we work to resolve the most fluid budget situation in MCC's history and in my career, this poem by Leslie Dwight, submitted by Tiffany Brecker, assistant to the dean for the Schools of STEM & Health, inspires us to view challenges as opportunities to grow.

"What if 2020 isn't cancelled?
What if 2020 is the year we've been waiting for?
A year so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw -
that it finally forces us to grow.
A year that screams so loud, finally awakening us
from our ignorant slumber.
A year we finally accept the need for change.
Declare change. Work for change. Become the change.
A year we finally band together, instead of
pushing each other further apart.

2020 isn't cancelled, but rather
the most important year of them all."

As Tiffany shared, "Through the fear and uncertainty of this surreal time, it is possible to find the good if we really look for it. We are adaptable and can grow as human beings and as a community."

As shared via Instagram by Leslie Dwight, a 23-year-old aspiring writer, this poem went viral and gained national media attention. Thanks to Tiffany, this poem captured our attention, too, at a very apropos time.

Is there a quote that inspires you to have a positive outlook and overcome challenges? If so, submit it along with a brief narrative about why the quote resonates for you to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes That Inspire" are featured on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
