City Rec Reading Corners
Thumbs Up to the members of Monroe Community College’s Rochester AmeriCorps Program and the AmeriCorps VISTA members working on the Mayor’s Literacy Initiative for establishing reading corners in four City recreation centers. A book drive conducted by Webster High School Senior Abby Deacon and donations from Volunteers of America, Small World Books, Park Ave. merchants Metro Retro and Utta Clutta, staff of the Center for Youth, and individual donors yielded over 1,200 children’s books, shelving, furniture and lighting to make the reading areas cozy and welcoming.
