Dr. Burt-Nanna Talks About Key MCC Initiatives on WDKX

President Burt-Nanna was a guest on WDKX (103.9 FM) on Wednesday and took the opportunity to discuss some of the key programs and initiatives taking place at MCC. Among the topics were the successful Certified Nurse Assistant program as a pathway to becoming a licensed practical nurse, the new Finger Lakes Workforce Development Center housed within the Downtown Campus, the new Women of Excellence program that benefits especially students of color and student-parents, Dreamkeepers program, and DWIGHT pantry.

Here are a few major takeaways from the conversation:

  • CNA-to-LPN ladder program -- "Our nursing and our health care professionals are doing amazing work. We need more of them out in the workforce and we're making that possible."
  • FWD Center -- "We want to get people into high-demand, technical-oriented fields and get them into the workforce really fast. We also want to make sure that we we lift up everybody ... that black and brown communities are represented in those programs."
  • Holistic support -- "A lot of our students are student-parents. We invest in making sure that they receive additional support to help them to have both community and the financial resources that they might need. ... We recognize that our students come with different degrees of readiness, but we don't leave anyone behind. We are there to support them all the way and do that very proudly every day."
  • Women of Excellence program -- "We lost a lot of women in the workforce due to the pandemic. Here's another way of our saying we're going to actively recruit women of color to come back to school, to do better for themselves, to have new opportunities and to right the wrongs. We live in the community of Susan B. Anthony. So we're making sure that we continue to extend that legacy by lifting all of our community members up, including those that are females of color."
