Refresher on Employment Eligibility Verification – Form I-9

Human Resources is responsible for ensuring MCC’s compliance with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services under The Department of Homeland Security and applicable federal laws that govern employment eligibility.  To be in compliance, employers are required to verify the identity and employment eligibility of anyone we hire, and to complete and retain a Form I-9.  This applies to all new hires regardless of how they are employed with us (faculty, administration, staff, and student employees).

Newly hired employees must fully complete Section 1 of Form I-9 by his or her first day of work.  Employees may complete Section 1 at any time between acceptance of a job offer and the first day of work.  Section 2 of the form must be completed within three (3) business days of starting work by providing documents that establish identity and employment eligibility.

Please refer to the Form I-9 for acceptable forms of documentation.  Some documents establish both identity and employment eligibility (List A).  Other documents establish identify only (List B) or employment eligibility only (List C).  Employees may provide one document from List A or one document from List B and List C.  Employees may choose which document(s) they want to present from the list of acceptable documents.  We may not specify which document(s) an employee must present.

For your convenience and reference, a blank Form I-9 with the List of Acceptable Documents is included below.  If you have any questions, please contact Human Resources at 2048.
