RBJ Interviews Oldham About MCC's E-book

MCC’s new e-book, “Measuring Middle-Skills Occupational Gaps Within the Finger Lakes Regional Economy," garnered coverage from the Rochester Business Journal.

The article in its Feb. 27 edition explains how employers, schools and the local community can benefit from this interactive resource and includes quotes from Todd Oldham, vice president of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services. Among the goals of the e-book is to further engage stakeholders in bridging the middle-skills gap.

Replete with videos, charts and graphs, the 188-page e-book quantifies current and projected labor shortages and surpluses across five key workforce clusters within the Finger Lakes region using various labor market and workforce intelligence sources and integrating traditional and real-time labor market data:

-- information and computer technology

-- advanced manufacturing

-- skilled trades

-- health care

-- hospitality and tourism.

The e-book also introduces readers to careers available in each industry, identifies skills in greatest demand for 23 occupational groups, provides a wage curve and estimates the percentage of workers approaching retirement age within 10 years for each occupational group.

The e-book is a continuation of MCC’s efforts since 2012 to use data to increase the community’s awareness of the mismatch between labor market demand and supply and to address the skills gap facing our region.
