Service Set for Trustee Goode

A memorial service for Trustee Kenneth G. Goode has been set for 11:00 am, Saturday, March 12, at Pittsford Community Church, 421 Marsh Road.

Trustee Goode was the Board Chair who brought me to MCC; he was a great source of wisdom and perspective who treasured MCC and all the College does for the community. He was a strong and unwavering advocate for MCC and our students, and for the mission and quality of community colleges.

Trustee Goode joined the MCC Board in 2007 and served as board chair from 2009 until 2013. He led MCC’s presidential search, guiding his trustee colleagues in fulfilling the most important duty of any college or university board: the selection of a president. During his chairmanship, the College experienced facility and program expansion, including the modernization of Gleason Hall, the selection of a site for our new downtown campus, and the birth of a new division dedicated to workforce education.  During his nine years on the board, he also served as vice chair (2008-2009) and chair of the Nominating Committee (2008-2010).

In addition to his service to MCC, he was active with the New York Community College Trustees and the Association of Community College Trustees.

Trustee Goode had an extensive career in higher education, having served as a faculty member and/or administrator at SUNY Geneseo, University of California at Berkeley, Laney College, Merritt College, Golden Gate University, SUNY Brockport, RIT and Nazareth College. It was the Assistant Vice President for Student Services and Staff Relations position at SUNY Geneseo that brought him to Western New York.

He worked for Monroe County for 10 years, first as director of the Department of Affirmative Action and Community Relations and then as director of the Office of Government and Community Affairs. He had also worked as city manager for East Palo Alto, California.

Trustee Goode was a prolific author and presenter, as well as a member of the American Academy of Social and Political Science. In the community, he served on governance bodies of the Monroe County Library System, the United Nations Association, the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester, and the YMCA.

He earned a doctor of laws degree from the University of Arizona, a master of arts degree in political science from the University of California at Berkeley, and a bachelor of arts degree in political science from the University of Arizona. Additionally, he earned certificates in management from Harvard University and the University of Washington.

Trustee Goode is survived by his wife, Etsuko, and two sons, including Michael, of MCC’s Parking Services Office.
