Departure of Dr. Swanger

It is with mixed emotions that I announce Dr. Dustin Swanger, associate vice president of economic and community development and dean of technical education, has accepted the position as provost and academic vice president of Luzerne County Community College (LCCC) in Nanticoke, Pa.

LCCC, accredited by the Commission on Higher Education Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, has a 167-acre main campus near Scranton and 11 satellite campuses located throughout northeastern Pennsylvania. A leader in technology training, the community college has the highest student enrollment in northeastern Pennsylvania.

Dr. Swanger first joined Monroe Community College in 1987 as program coodinator in Corporate Services, where he served until 1993. He then joined Rochester Institute of Technology (1993-96) and Francis Marion University (1996-97), and returned to MCC in September of 1997 to serve as assistant vice president of workforce development and dean of technical education. He was promoted this past spring to associate vice president and dean.

In his current role, Dr. Swanger has been responsible for the college’s efforts in providing training and education to the existing and future workforce of the greater Rochester area. He provides leadership for the non-credit training program, academic technical education departments, the Public Safety Training Facility and the Homeland Security Management Institute. He received his Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration from Nova Southeastern University, holds a master’s in Public Administration from SUNY Brockport, and a B.A. in Political Science from SUNY Fredonia.

Dr. Swanger is expected to leave for Luzerne County Community College in late July or early August. He will be greatly missed; however, we are excited for him in his new opportunity. We all wish him the best in his new endeavor.
