MCC Presents at NYCCT 67th Annual Conference
Last week, MCC had two presenters at the New York Community College Trustees (NYCCT) 67th Annual Conference, “Planning the Post COVID-19 Recovery.” Mike Quinn, Controller, presented virtually on November 5 focusing primarily on use of institutional HEERF funds. Topics covered included: allowable use of funds, required use of funds, reporting requirements, SUNY spending guidelines, and specific examples of actual use of funds.
Christine Casalinuovo-Adams, Associate Vice President, Enrollment Management, presented virtually on November 6 on “How MCC is Rebuilding in the Post COVID Recovery Era.” Prior to COVID, MCC was facing historical enrollment declines, over several years. Shifts in demographics, competition from online programs and area four-year colleges, combined with a historically low unemployment rate, all contributed to the enrollment challenges. In March 2020, MCC, along with the rest of the world, retreated to a virtual education and student support environment. In June, MCC began returning to in-person services. Christine shared how MCC was able to exceed their budget enrollment numbers for the fall 2021 semester by:
- Developing new recruitment and enrollment strategies combining both in person and virtual services, strategic communication efforts, and a unique outbound calling program
- Innovating MCC services and staffing to adjust to the new normal
- Using HERFF funding to support student enrollment
