Poetry Reading--Michael Waters


The Creative Arts Committee and the English/Philosophy Department are pleased to announce that poet Michael Waters will read from his work on Thursday, November 9, at 7 p.m., in Monroe A and B.

Michael Waters is the author of several critically acclaimed volumes of poetry, including Parthenopi: New and Selected Poems (2001) and Darling Vulgarity (2006). He also is the current editor of Contemporary American Poetry, which is the most widely used poetry anthology in college classrooms throughout the English-speaking world. Waters has received fellowships from the National Endowment of the Arts and three Pushcart Prizes and has been a resident fellow at Yaddo, The MacDowell Colony, The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, the Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, the Tyrone Guthrie Center at Annaghmakerrig (Ireland), Le Chateau de Lavigny (Switzerland), and the St. James Cavalier Centre (Malta). A consummate reader and writer, his poems are informed by a vast range of intellectual and aesthetic currents within and beyond contemporary America.
