Sigrist Essay Published in Democrat and Chronicle

On April 1 the Democrat and Chronicle published a "bright spot" written by Deborah Sigrist, RN, adjunct professor in the Health and Physical Education Department. The article, entitled "Course on dying teaches students to value life," positioned the number and popularity of death and dying courses taught in local high schools and colleges as one of our community's "best-kept secrets."

About students who take a death and dying course, Sigrist noted "It's heartening to see young people 'look death in the eye' and then approach life with more awareness, appreciation and meaning."

Sigrist is a hospice nurse and the author of "Journey's End, A Guide to Understanding the Dying Process."
