MCC Updates High Falls Neighbors on New Downtown Campus

At the invitation of the High Falls Business Association, President Kress and college leaders last week updated our future neighbors on the progress of the new downtown campus.

The High Falls businesses and organizations represented around the table included the City of Rochester, Entercom, Fina’s Café, Greentopia, Hunt, J August Properties Inc., LaBella Associates, Norry Management, Partners and Napier, Roberts Communication, Rochester Downtown Development Corporation, Stantec, Urban League of Rochester and others. Their questions (and our answers) touched on

*
construction timeline (opening in Fall 2017)
* parking (more than 400 spaces should be sufficient, based on current usage)
* class patterns (currently most classes are day classes; the new site provides opportunity to explore other models)
* safety (owning the building provides opportunities; single point of entry to the campus; public safety plan is in development)
* environmental issues (some remediation to the property needed; have a grant to incorporate a green roof)
* student internships (absolutely!)

As always, updates are available to the college community through two web sites—https://www.monroecc.edu/downtown/ and https://mccdowntown.dimarcoconstructors.com/—and at monthly forums hosted by the New Downtown Campus Steering Committee. The next forum will be Wednesday, Feb. 11, noon, in Room 4151; please bring any questions or topics you’d like to discuss.
