Student Leaders Raise $2,500 for Water for Sudan

Student leaders from the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project (HGSP) presented a check for $2,500 to Water for Sudan CEO and MCC alumnus Salva Dut on Aug. 8 in the Flynn Campus Center. The money supports Water for Sudan's efforts to drill fresh water wells for people suffering in Sudan.

At the ceremony, HGSP President Chuck Theis said he takes pride in and never doubts the work of the project. To raise awareness and funds, students sold commemorative bracelets at campus events during the past year. Students also visited classrooms and hosted information displays on campus.

Recently back from building 10 new wells in Sudan, Dut thanked project members for "taking care of other people who are in need." In total, Water for Sudan has built 17 wells that serve over 51,000 people each day. During his remarks, Dut commented that "We're making a great difference in people's lives."

According to incoming HGSP President Ashley Wood, the Project will be selling botteld water for $1.50 in the Gilman Lounge and at events during the upcoming academic year. "Bottled water is part of everyday life year, but only a dream for many in Sudan.
