Help us identify potential student leader candidates!

At this time each spring semester, the MCC Office of Student Life and Leadership Development begins the process of identifying our next generation of student leaders.  We would appreciate your assistance in helping us identify potential candidates to assume student leadership positions for the 2015-2016 academic year.

Many students nominated in the past by our faculty have been very successful in our Co-Curricular Program and we are grateful to each faculty member who provided nominations.  Well over 1000 students have become involved as a result of this program and a number of them would not have explored these opportunities had it not been for this process.

Students who become involved in the Co-Curricular Program have a wide range of learning experiences from which to choose.  Students may become Senators, helping to develop college policy and budget proposals, or they may choose to work with the Campus Activities Board and learn to negotiate contracts and develop and implement campus-wide programs.  These are just two of the many opportunities available.  The Office of Student Life and Leadership Development provides the student with extensive leadership training through a series of leadership workshops, retreats and leadership courses which are offered each semester. In addition, all of the student’s leadership involvement is evaluated, assessed and documented on a life skills transcript.  The life skills transcript is an official record of the student’s activities and accomplishments.  No matter which opportunity students choose, these experiences will lead to personal growth and development, and enhance their formal and informal learning of life-long skills.

The MCC LEAD (Leadership Education And Development) Program Mission Statement and a copy of the Emerging Leader Nomination Form are attached to this email.  Please nominate as many students as you wish from both the fall and spring semesters.  We ask that you try, to the best of your ability, to nominate only students who will be returning for the 2015-2016 academic year.  Once we receive your nominations, the students will be sent a letter indicating that you recommended them as a potential student leader and inviting them to our annual Emerging Leaders Reception which will be held on March 26, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in the Warshof Conference Center of the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center, Monroe A & B.  At the reception, the nominated students will have the opportunity to learn about MCC’s Co-Curricular opportunities and to meet with current student leaders from our clubs and organizations.

The key to this program is you.  Please forward the names of candidates to us by Friday, February 13, 2015.  Upon receiving responses from the students, you will be notified if any of the students you nominated will be attending and invited to join them at the reception.

Thank you for your continued support of the Co-Curricular Program at Monroe Community College.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at ext. 2536.
