Somos Amigos in Dominican Republic

You are invited to attend a lunch hour talk given by Professor Steve Farrington from the ESOL/Foreign Languages Dept. and Frank Brightwell, the director of the non-profit group Somos Amigos Medical Missions.

Time:  Tuesday, March 3rd, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm
Place: Brighton Campus, Bldg 6 Rm 321

Steve will talk about his recent trip in January with Somos Amigos to Dominican Republic where he volunteered as a translator in dental clinics. Frank will talk about volunteering in the developing world.

Somos Amigos began over ten years ago with a group of volunteers from the Washington, D.C. area. The first trips consisted of high school students from a Jesuit school, Georgetown Prep, who helped the community of El Naranjito, in rural Dominican Republic, build a modern drinking-water system.  It has now grown into a dental and medical clinic that provides free health care to people in El Naranjito and surrounding areas, among other projects.

This organization might be of special interest to individuals with knowledge of Spanish, Creole and/or have a background or future in the medical or dental fields. We encourage you to see the website for this group,
