The Homeland Security Management Institute (HSMI) at Monroe Community College will provide Community Emergency Response Training (CERT) to Bishop Kearney High School, a Golisano Education Partner.
CERT will give Bishop Kearney students, faculty and administrators training in disaster preparedness for emergencies that may impact their school. The students and employees will learn basic emergency response skills, including fire safety, first aide and team organization. Training will run from March 25 through graduation on May 13. Bishop Kearney will be the second private school in Monroe County to adopt the program.
With the training they learn in the classroom and during practice exercises, CERT-trained individuals can assist other students and employees as well as people in their neighborhoods and the community following a natural or intentional disaster, when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
Funding for the CERT program is provided through a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is administered by the Monroe County Office of Emergency Management.
