National Cyber Security Awareness Month

Did you know that October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM)? This is the perfect time to for you to reflect on the universe of cyber threats and learn what you can do to protect the network, your devices and your data from these threats.  The intent of NCSAM is to engage and educate individuals through events and initiatives with the goal of raising awareness about cybersecurity.  It is this united effort that is necessary to maintain a cyberspace that is safe.  Everyone has a shared responsibility in protecting our cyberspace.

Throughout the month of October, we will be running a number of articles promoting specific cybersecurity tips.  You will see a number of posters around campus reminding you to be mindful of cybersecurity.

Monroe Community College has developed a free mini-course for faculty and staff in an online Blackboard course.  This course is self-paced and intended for the average person that comes into contact with technology in your job or at home.  You will learn how to avoid online fraud and phishing, as well as how to protect our students’ and college’s information from cybercriminals.

My “ASK” is that everyone show your support for NCSAM by taking the short online cybersecurity awareness course.  Note: if you get any answers incorrect, you can retake the quiz over several times.  This course is not intended to intimidate anyone, but only to make you aware and help you to protect yourself and others from cyber- criminals.

The attached instructions provide details for accessing this self-paced online course, titled “901500-MON-MCC-CNS-100 Intro to Cyber Security 2015 with Donna Pogroszewski.” This course provides important tips and information to protect digital assets from hackers and safeguard you and MCC’s sensitive information. Technology Services encourages everyone to complete this course.  If you have any questions on how to access this course, please contact the Technology Support Desk at 292-8324 (xTECH) option #3.
