Quotes That Inspire

Embarking on our sixth week of remote working and socially isolated living, this submission from Jodi Oriel, from the Office of Student Life and Leadership Development, inspired me.

As Jodi shared, "Elizabeth Randolph and Savannah Baker, co-presidents of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project (HGHRP), just checked in with me and I asked them how they are holding up through this transition. They sent me this quote:

"There is struggle on the journey, and there is joy, too. You will find where light pours in ... You will find the hope to make it through." -- Morgan Harper Nichols, American Christian musician, songwriter, artist, and writer

"Elizabeth said, 'This is a great reminder for all of us. People are doing many good things to bring joy to others and there is hope even during times like these.'"

Elizabeth, Savannah, and Jodi embody the light that shines through from so many during these times. Thank you for this reminder and for your leadership of the HGHRP. Being socially distant did not stop you from leading the College's 30th annual Yom HaShoah Commemoration this week. You "found the hope to make it through," ensuring we honored local Holocaust survivors and lit candles of remembrance for the millions of lives lost in the Holocaust.

Join me in personally congratulating Jodi for achieving this special anniversary. An MCC alumna, Jodi and her classmates planned MCC's first Yom HaShoah commemoration. This year, once again, she inspired current students to learn from our shared history and to not take human rights for granted.

We welcome your quote and accompanying narrative about why the quote resonates for you. Submit your quotes to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes that Inspire" are featured on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
