Fostering Interaction in Distance Learning Audioconference

MCC will be hosting the ITC professional development audioconference entitled, “Fostering Interaction in Distance Learning,” scheduled for Tuesday February 8, 2005 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Board Lounge with presenter Dr. Joan McMahon, Professor of Human Resource Development, Towson University. Dr. McMahon will discuss and compare ways to modify interaction in a face-to-face classroom for distance learning. Interactive tools could include scavenger hunts, inventories, summary profiles, crossword puzzles, insight reflections, collaborative projects, discussions, (subject matter) challenges, humor, models, online videos, live chat for problem solving and brainstorming, and problem-based learning. Practical and realistic examples with problem solving solutions will be key to this presentation. McMahon will look at ways to adapt and transform commonly-used, widely-accepted face-to-face classroom strategies for distance learning. A high touch teacher, she has struggled with keeping her online classes high touch in a high tech environment. The opportunities for becoming a more effective communicator are endless.  To make a reservation please contact Carol Wilkinson via email or at Ext. 3019.
