STEP Students Win 6 Medals at Science Olympiad Competition


The MCC STEP program is currently offering services to students enrolled in grades 7-12 at Rochester Academy Charter School (RACS). STEP students from RACS high school participated in the Science Olympiad Competition on Saturday, February 2nd at SUNY Brockport. Students received six(6) bronze medals from three(3) events.

Technology & Engineering construction projects:

1.    In the Boomilever event - students placed 3rd and won 2 bronze medals.

2.    In the Gravity Vehicle event - students placed 4th and won 2 bronze medals.

Physical Science & Chemistry construction project:

3.     In the Maglev event - students placed 6th and won 2 bronze medals.

Additional students also competed in varying study/testing events and gained valuable experience and exposure in events like Anatomy and Physiology (Nervous, Excretory, Digestion), Forensics and Experimental Design.

STEP is funded through a legislative grant by the New York State Education Department and has been at MCC for over 25 years. The mission of STEP is to prepare secondary school students who are historically underrepresented or economically disadvantaged for entry into postsecondary degree programs in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math (STEM), health and licensed professions.
