National Nurses Week to be celebrated May 6-12 at MCC

National Nurses Week to be celebrated May 6-12 at MCC

America’s 2.7 million registered nurses help save lives and maintain the health of millions of people everyday.  National Nurses Week recognizes their service and celebrates their contribution.  “Nurses: Many Roles, One Profession” is the theme for 2005.  Annually, National Nurses Week begins on May 6, marked as RN Recognition Day, and ends on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, founder of nursing as a modern profession.  Traditionally, National Nurses Week is devoted to highlighting the diverse ways in which registered nurses, the largest health care profession, are working to improve health care.  From bedside nursing in hospitals and long-term care facilities to the halls of research institutions, state legislatures, and congress, the depth and breadth of the nursing profession is meeting the expanding health care needs of American society.

During this week, the Department of Nursing has planned many activities for the MCC community.  These public events will be held as follows:

View the video, “Campaign for Nursing’s Future” to be shown on the plasma screens in the Bausch & Lomb Lobby, and the Market Place of the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center on May 9, 10, and 11 from 8:00 am-1:00 pm.

View lobby of Building 8 display case which features a poster of this year’s Nurses Week theme and pictures of the Nursing Graduates of the December 2004 Class.

Visit Building 8, 3rd floor and read student nurses career statements, displayed on the wall, from currently enrolled students.

Other activities the MCC Nursing Department has coordinated include:
Faculty distributing Nurses Week cards to each nursing student in the program.

Faculty and students distributing Thank You cards to nurses in all our community affiliating agencies.

In the department, faculty has created a display in the Nursing Learning Resource Center called, “Nursing Department-A Walk Down Memory Lane”, and features photos of the Nursing Department faculty and staff when they graduated from nursing school.
