CSTEP Summer Bridge Students Visit Alumni at RIT

On Thursday, July 16, a group of newly accepted MCC STEM students in the Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) visited with MCC CSTEP alumni who are currently conducting research at RIT through Upstate Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program. Three of the students participating in the ULSAMP research experience presented their findings at a mock conference with the summer bridge students as part of their audience.   The MCC students participating in the 2015 CSTEP Summer Bridge Program are all enrolled in STEM programs for the fall semester. After attending the research presentations, the group toured the RIT Campus and visited the MAGIC Center and NanoPower Research Laboratories.

Upon finishing their research at RIT, the MCC CSTEP alumni will be continuing their studies in STEM programs at Nazareth College, RIT, SUNY Brockport, and the University of Rochester.

CSTEP at MCC works to increase the number of students from under-represented groups who are pursuing professional licensure and careers in mathematics, science, technology and health-related fields.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is dedicated to increasing the number of under-represented students in college and receiving 4-year degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Seven Upstate New York institutions have joined forces to provide funding, research opportunities, tutoring and mentoring services to students in the LSAMP program.
