Diversity Council Update

The Diversity Council is a representative group of college faculty, staff and administrators appointed by the President, who advise and support the college administration in its efforts to embrace and celebrate diversity and to create an environment of inclusion.

Under the leadership of Alberta Lee, the Diversity Council has initiated many new projects and events.  A summary of the accomplishments for the period 2003-06 is attached.  I am grateful to Alberta for her outstanding leadership.

I am pleased to announce the Council’s new co-chairs:  Charlotte Downing, Director, Curriculum and Program Development and Craig Rand, Chair, Health and Physical Education.  Char, Craig and I will lead the Diversity Council and engage the college community to incorporate the college’s vision as cited in the 2007-2011 Strategic Plan.

Embracing diversity is everyone’s responsibility, and your participation is critical.  We are creating opportunities for you to contribute to this strategic goal by forming sub-committees targeted to address the Strategic Directions outlined in the newly adopted Strategic Plan.  Sign-up for sub-committees will be announced in the Tribune the first week of March.

I am confident you will be impressed with our work over the last 3 years.  I welcome your involvement and support over the next 3 years.
