IR's COVID-Era College-Wide Survey Results Section VII: MCC Schools Survey Items

As I mentioned in my Trib post on July 7, I would be sharing the results of IR's COVID-Era College-Wide Survey throughout July and August.  The following is Section VII of XI.

Note: Because I had a margin of error of +/-3%, the following results can be generalized to the larger population of people who were sent the survey.

Currently enrolled students were asked about career planning assistance and other services and programs.  The following were the themes that emerged when respondents were asked what MCC could do to help them plan for a career after college:

  • Nothing / Not applicable / Not sure (309 respondents)
  • Post job listings or provide job search assistance (100 respondents)
  • General outreach, advising, and career counseling (118 respondents), for example, "Explain the transfer process and what classes I should take to pursue the career I want."
  • Provide guidance for continued education after MCC (trade schools, four-year colleges, graduate programs) to help students figure out a long-term education and career path (76 respondents).  For example: "Advisement sessions with students who are getting ready to graduate that offers information on what we can do now with our 2 year degree and what would be our best options going forward to a 4 year college."
  • Hold career fairs / job fairs / networking opportunities (45 respondents)
  • Partner with employers to offer students hands-on experiences such as internships, apprenticeships, co-ops, shadowing, etc. (45 respondents)
  • Offer more access to advisors and/or ensure that they are responsive to students who reach out to them (38 respondents), for example, "Easier access to advisors to ask small questions instead of scheduling block hours for minor answers."
