TVL 275 - Current Issues and Trends in Hospitality

3 Credits

This course is an examination of contemporary issues and topics that are influencing the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Students will collect pertinent articles and information from newspapers, magazines, professional journals, and news programs, and will utilize the internet to find relevant issues to discuss in class. Oral presentations, guest speakers, and class discussions will allow the student to develop knowledge and awareness on issues that will impact the industry both in the present and in the future. Three class hours.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss possible future career paths within the tourism industry
2. Locate pertinent articles on issues that will impact the tourism industry
3. Discuss the pros and cons of current travel/tourism/hospitality industry-related topics
4. Create a current events tourism journal and include documentation of personal reactions to these events
5. Create a training/educational presentation on a travel/tourism/hospitality related topic that has not been discussed in any previous HSP class. This must be new information to the student and the class
