Note: This is an ARCHIVED news release. Information in this article may have changed since this was published.

WHAT: About 20 Rochester City School District high school students and Rochester police officers will come together to put on a talent show to promote peace and strengthen ties between the Rochester community and the Rochester Police Department. The third annual Police & Teen Talent Slam will feature rappers, singers, dancers and musicians.

WHERE: Auditorium at Joseph C. Wilson Foundation Academy, 200 Genesee St. in Rochester

WHEN: 2-4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6

DETAILS: Students in the Upward Bound program at MCC developed the vision for the talent show as a fun, safe venue to foster peace and trust between the Rochester Police Department and community residents. “A talent show has the potential to show officers and teenagers a different and fun side of each other, so that perceptions can move away from distrust and move toward acceptance and understanding,” said Paul Stack, event coordinator. “Developing this event is helping change the lives of my student leadership team. It’s helping them understand better how to bring about change in their community.”
