Description
The Robotics and Automation degree offers a unique, interdisciplinary program which prepares students for positions in high technology fields applying Mechatronic principles to the operation and maintenance of electro-mechanical-computer controlled systems commonly found in Advanced Manufacturing environments. The comprehensive curriculum integrates electrical, mechanical, and computer controls so that students will be prepared to work in the operations, installation, and maintenance of automated and robotically controlled systems and manufacturing technologies. Students are provided with extensive hands-on laboratory experience and work on team projects that simulate industry scenarios.

Upon completion of the program, graduates will be qualified for jobs such as industrial maintenance and manufacturing including assembly, testing, startup, troubleshooting, repair, and upgrades of machinery and the associated control systems.

Students should meet regularly with their program advisor to make certain that their course selections meet the requirements of the program and their career choices.

Program Learning Outcomes
1) Develop a personalized troubleshooting process to diagnose and repair system failures.
2) Explain how a system operates by reading and interpreting electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
3) Understand the role of an intelligent computer system, such as Programmable Logic Controllers, to monitor and control the production process.
4) Work within a team environment to maintain production equipment.
5) Demonstrate proper use of diagnostic tools to identify and verify system malfunctions
6) Perform both preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance procedures.
