BIO 142 - Human Anatomy

The detailed study of the human organism at the tissue and organ system levels. The relationship between structure and function is covered with emphasis on structural relationships. Laboratory study includes microscope work along with substantial organ and animal dissection. The course is designed for students in Nursing, Radiologic Technology, and other health-related programs.

Prerequisite(s): High school biology with a grade of C or higher, or any of the following with a grade of C- or higher: BIO 120, both BIO 132 and BIO 133, or permission of instructor.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Paraphrase an anatomical description into "lay" language and interpret that statement as one would in explaining it to a patient.
2. Point out anatomical locations on dissected specimens, anatomical models, and drawings based on text descriptions that use classical anatomical terminology and language.
3. Locate anatomical structures in all body systems from memory at the level of detail needed in the heath-related professions (e.g. nursing) and describe the basic function of these structures.
4. Describe anatomical structures and locations using proper anatomical terminology.
5. Perform a proper dissection of a mammal and identify the parts using proper anatomical terminology for the human.
6. Identify mammalian tissues and organs under the compound light microscope and describe the histology visualized.
