Updated COVID-19 Guidance

The State University of New York (SUNY) has announced that the COVID-19 vaccine will no longer be mandated for students to attend SUNY's 64 campuses. This updated COVID-19 guidance will become effective Summer 2023. This coincides with the official end of the national public health emergency.

Moving forward, COVID-19 vaccinations will be strongly encouraged for students, which is consistent with other viruses including influenza and mpox. Faculty and staff will also be encouraged to stay up to date on vaccinations.

SUNY will continuously examine COVID-19 data and update its policy as needed based on local conditions or in response to requirements imposed by federal, state, or local authorities. MCC will also continue to monitor local conditions carefully and make changes as appropriate.

Safety Measures

Students experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms:

  • Stay home and get tested.  If you do not have access to an at-home test, contact Health Services (585) 292-2018 or your primary care provider.
  • Isolate and wear a mask until test results are received.

For additional guidance, refer to the following:

VACCINE AND BOOSTER POLICY

  • Students enrolled in any program or course or who are participating in a clinical or internship held at a third-party location must continue to comply with all health and safety guidelines, including any vaccination or testing protocols that are in place at the third-party location.

Masking

  • Masks are optional at Monroe Community College. Individuals may choose to wear masks for their own health and safety.

QUARANTINE & ISOLATION

  • Campuses are strongly encouraged to maintain an appropriate level of isolation space or quarantine for students who test positive for COVID-19 in accordance with CDC guidelines and the local health department.
  • For situations in which isolating off campus is not possible, students may remain in their room just as with the flu, strep throat, and other illnesses. Students should be encouraged to engage in protective measures per CDC recommendations to prevent the spread of illnesses to the greatest extent possible.
  • SUNY continues to strongly recommend that affiliates stay home if they feel unwell and isolate according to CDC guidelines if they test positive for COVID-19.
