Officials, Project Partners Commence Construction of FWD Center Today

Regional facility will offer fast-track, tech-oriented training focused on Industry 4.0 skills for high-demand careers, starting in early 2022

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello will join me in announcing the beginning of construction of the FWD* (Finger Lakes Workforce Development) Center at a noon ceremony today on the fifth floor of the Downtown Campus.

We will be joined by local and state officials as well as representatives from the business community, workforce organizations, industry associations and academia.

Anticipated to open in early 2022, the comprehensive, $11.4 million FWD Center will offer increased opportunities for diverse residents of the Finger Lakes region to access technology-oriented, industry-driven education and training for high-demand careers in a 21st-century economy. Housed on the fifth and sixth floors of the Downtown Campus, the facility will take a multifaceted, collaborative approach to bolstering the workforce, including expanding public and private partnerships needed to create a larger pool of technician talent.

Guests at today’s construction kickoff event will have an opportunity to learn more about the FWD Center — what this incredible resource means for local residents and employers and its impact on the Finger Lakes region. In no other time has our response to the area economy been more important.

We are thrilled to see this collaborative, regional undertaking reach an important milestone toward creating a more robust pipeline of skilled technical workers for in-demand, technology-oriented careers.
