Martin Luther King, Jr. Day has become the most recognized day on the calendar that happens every year on the third Monday in January. King spoke of service, community, empowerment, and nonviolence. In recognition of the national holiday, and in honor of King’s humanitarian contributions, Monroe Community College pauses by closing the college in remembrance of this great civil rights hero. However, this year we are continuing to honor this activist and minister by incorporating a celebration of his life during Black History Month.
Keeping the spirit of Dr. King, we are asking faculty, staff, and students to help us commemorate MLK Day along with Black History Month by attending a celebration on Monday, February 13, at 12:00 p.m. in the R. Thomas Flynn Warshof Conference Center in Monroe A/B. The program will include gospel singing and poetry readings along with key-note guest speaker Ms. Sabrina LaMar, President, Monroe County Legislature.
