Institutions of higher education need to be aware of the special challenges that many military-affiliated students face as they transition from the armed forces to college. The vast majority of faculty and staff have not served in the military and that significant cultural divide needs to both addressed and bridged. To support those who have served, higher education professionals need to understand these challenges and adapt services to ensure our student-veterans are successful as they pursue their educational paths.
Join us for a full-day conference which includes presentations designed to raise awareness and educate those in attendance on how to best serve this important, and often at-risk, student population. Workshops include information on the transition from the service to higher education, professional development to assist faculty and staff working with these students, an overview of veteran’s mental health concerns and the services available to assist them, and a student panel allowing conference participants to ask questions of current student-veterans. For your convenience, the program schedule is attached.
